Motorcyclist dead after driver of SUV runs stop sign in Lee’s Summit, police say

A motorist is being investigated for possible impairment following a crash that left a motorcyclist dead Saturday, Lee’s Summit police said.

First responders were called to a crash at about 6 p.m. Saturday in the area of Northeast Todd George Parkway and Leinweber Road, Sgt. Chris Depue, with the Lee’s Summit Police Department, said in a news release.

The driver of a black Toyota SUV was headed west on Leinweber Road as the driver of a black motorcycle was headed south on Todd George Parkway, police said. The SUV appeared to run a stop sign and the vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and is under investigation for possible impairment, police said.

The victim’s name had not yet been made public as of Sunday afternoon.
