Johnson County liquor store clerk who was knifed Friday is in critical condition: Police

A clerk working at Stonebridge Liquor in Shawnee was seriously injured in a knife attack Friday afternoon, according to police.

Officers responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the 6648 Nieman Road in response to the attack, police said in a statement. The 47-year-old woman suffered a severe cut and was taken to the hospital and remained in critical condition Friday, police said.

The store clerk told police she had been attacked by someone who walked into the store.

Police said the suspect was a man, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, who wore his hair tied in a bun. He was taken into custody south of Kansas City late Friday afternoon, police said.

Detectives and crime scene investigators were on scene to search for evidence on Friday.
