Amber alert canceled for four children taken from Topeka home; children found safe
Update: Amber alert was canceled after four children taken by their mother from a Topeka home were found safe. Their mother was taken into custody, police said.
An amber alert was issued Monday afternoon for four missing children who are said to be in “imminent danger” after their mother took them from a home in Topeka, police said on Twitter.
Topeka police are looking for 30-year-old Dontresha Shabree Thomas, who allegedly took her children shortly after 10:30 a.m. from a home in the 2100 block of Southeast Swygart Street in Topeka.
“The suspects statements to the father indicate that all of the children are in imminent danger,” according to an amber alert issued by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Thomas was described as being 5-feet-1-inch tall, weighing 110 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and gray shorts.
Missing are 12-year-old Au’ Vae Riley, 10-year-old Da’Avien Riley Jr., 7-year-old Tyrell Riley and 5-year-old Aunila Riley.
Au’ Vae was described as being 4-feet-10-inches tall, weighing 90 pounds. Da’Avien was described as being 4-feet-6-inches tall, weighing 70 pounds. Tyrell was described as being 4-feet-4-inches tall, weighing 70 pounds. Aunila was described as being 3-feet tall, weighing 40 pounds. All of the children have black hair and brown eyes. It was not known what clothing the children were wearing.
Thomas and her children were last seen in a silver GMC Acadia with a Kansas temporary license plate number C953627. They were headed in an unknown direction. The SUV has one exhaust pipe that hangs low, a cracked windshield and a dent in the rear hatch below the handle.
Anyone who has seen the children, their mother or the suspect’s vehicle is asked call 911 or the Topeka Police Department at 785-368-9200.
