Kansas City police officer injured following evening hit-and-run crash on Prospect Ave
Kansas City police are investigating after an officer was injured in a Thursday night hit and run.
Police responded to calls of a crash at 9:25 p.m. in the area of East 68th Street and Prospect Avenue, according to Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the department.
An investigation determined the officer was traveling south on Prospect Avenue when a Hyundai Sonata driving west on 68th Street failed to stop at a stop sign.
The Sonata drove through the intersection and crashed into the officer’s vehicle.
The driver of the Sonata continued on after the collision, speeding away from the crash site. Shortly after, detectives found the vehicle abandoned.
As a result of the impact, the police car slammed into the side of a building on the east side of Prospect Ave. The police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The officer is currently in stable condition.
