Video shows pickup swerve off sidewalk in Johnson County moments after striking man
Dash camera video shows the driver of a white Ford pickup swerving off of a sidewalk just moments after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Prairie Village.
The video, released by the Prairie Village Police Department, is related to a hit-and-run crash that injured a man a shortly after noon Tuesday in the 2800 block of Somerset Drive.
Officers responding to the crash found an injured man on the sidewalk. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were non-life-threatening, Capt. Eric McCullogh, a spokesman for the Prairie Village Police Department, said in a news release.
A dash camera from a private vehicle that was driving in the area at the time, captured the moments after the crash, said Sgt. Travis Gray, traffic unit supervisor with the Prairie Village Police Department.
The seven-second dash cam video shows the Ford Pickup driving on the sidewalk before pulling back onto the road, causing another truck that was towing a trailer to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision.
Although the video shows a different time stamp than the date and time of the incident, Gray said that the video was from shortly after the crash. He added that the witness had been unable to reset the time on the camera.
The vehicle suspected to be involved in the crash is a white Ford pickup with a Kansas City vanity plate — possibly a Kansas City Royals plate — on the front bumper and a missing driver’s side mirror. The mirror broke off during the crash and was left at the scene, Gray said.
The vehicle was last seen headed east on Somerset towards State Line Road.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Prairie Village Police Department at 913-642-6868 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
