The Hickman Mills School District has stepped up security at Ruskin High School in south Kansas City after a student posted a threat on social media Wednesday.

When the district became aware of the threat, it contacted police and a note was sent to families explaining that a threat had been made.

“Our school, along with Kansas City Police Department, has been investigating a social media incident,” Ernest Fields, principal at Ruskin High School, wrote. “It has been determined that there is no danger to the safety of our students or staff members.”

The school had an additional police presence Thursday on its campus at 7000 E. 111th St. It also planned to have resources, including school counselors, available for students and staff who needed them.

The school knew who made the threat and Kansas City police were investigating, said Justin Robinson, a spokesman for the district.
