Kansas City police are investigating the death of a pregnant woman whose remains were discovered near Indian Mound Park.

She had been missing for almost six years.

Jamie Lenise Toliver disappeared after being dropped off on April 14, 2017 near 39th Terrace and Oakley Avenue, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

At the time, she was 29 years old and either three or four months pregnant, said a missing person’s poster.

Authorities located her remains on Feb. 19, 2023, about five miles north of where she was last seen, near Gladstone and North Belmont Boulevard, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the department.

Detectives are investigating her death.

‘She was lively’

Almost six years later, Marlawn Toliver, 51, is still grieving the disappearance of his little sister.

He remembers the time spent together as kids. Jamie Toliver, the youngest of Marlwan’s two other siblings, always cracked jokes and livened up family dinners.

“She was an uplifter,” he said.

The younger sister was generous with her time, often lending her ear to support family and friends in need.

People were drawn to her, Marlawn Toliver said.

She had a face that belonged in front of a camera, and at 8 years old, she started to model.

At first, a small clothing brand asked her to pose for pictures. Then, Jamie Toliver started taking her own photographs, hoping to spark a career.

“She was photogenic,” Marlawn Toliver said. “She was really petite too, so that helped.”

As she got older, Jamie Toliver continued to chase her modeling dream, but also found new passions to occupy her time, including dance.

“It was a lot of ballerina type stuff,” her brother said, chuckling.

She also loved working with cars and traveling, he said.

Before she disappeared, she and a friend were attempting to create a joint business either selling cars or starting a boutique, according to Marlawn Toliver.

“She was lively,” he said. “Just a really good person.”
