2 dead, 1 critically hurt in Kansas City crash near Swope Park on Thursday: Police

Two people were killed and a third was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday near Kansas City’s Swope Park.

Police said the crash occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of 63rd Street and Jackson Avenue. It involved a silver Buick sedan that was headed west on 63rd.

Police say the driver was traveling at high speed and left the roadway, crashing into a large tree. The front and back seat passengers were thrown from the vehicle as it flipped over several times.

The driver and backseat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said none of the car’s occupants was wearing a seatbelt.
