Pedestrian dies in hospital 6 days after Kansas City hit-and-run: Police

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Kansas City’s Sheffield neighborhood died in the hospital on Friday after spending six days there, according to police.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the 700 block of Bennington Avenue. The pedestrian, described by authorities as an elderly woman, was struck by a northbound vehicle as she was crossing to the west side of Bennington, police said.

The driver allegedly fled north on Bennington after the crash. As of last week, police were searching for a red vehicle of unknown type, make and model.

The Accident Investigation Section was notified of the death on Friday, Capt. Corey Carlisle, a KCPD spokesman, said in an email.

It was not immediately known whether detectives had been able to locate the vehicle or its driver.

The fatality marked the 11th in Kansas City so far this year, according to KCPD. Police did not identify the pedestrian.
