Man charged in home burglaries in historic northeast Kansas City neighborhood
Prosecutors have charged a 42-year-old man with several home burglaries that began in April in the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood in northeast Kansas City.
Robert L. Brown Jr. of Kansas City faces first-degree burglary and stealing charges. Brown was arrested Sunday following a short foot chase.
Police said they noticed that a burglary pattern began to emerge in the historic neighborhood earlier this year. Authorities convened a meeting with neighborhood and church leaders to discuss the burglary pattern. They also instructed residents what to do if they encountered an intruder.
A pair of officers working undercover searched for the intruder on Sunday when they were alerted about a burglary in progress. Brown was eventually spotted, police said, and arrested after a brief foot chase. During the chase, Brown dropped a bag that allegedly that had a business card that belonged to the victim, police said.
Brown is being held on $100,000 bond. He has a court hearing scheduled for July 30.
