Two men shot during picnic at Troost Lake Park

Two men shot during a picnic at Troost Lake Park on Saturday were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Kansas City police officers responded to a disturbance at the park, near Vine Street and Lynn Avenue, about 6 p.m. after shooting broke out at a park shelter where more than a dozen people had gathered.

Two men, both about 40 or 50 years old, had been shot, said Officer Jonathan Campbell. One man about the same age had been stabbed, suffering an injury that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Many of the people gathered at the park and detained as witnesses wore identical neon-green shirts that read “Celebration of Life.”

No other injuries were reported. Police said they had not yet named a suspect. The investigation continued Saturday night.
