A man has been found and returned to custody after running away from a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer who had tried to place him in Clay County Detention Center on Friday night, according to police.

The officer had brought Daniel Mack to Clay County Detention Center at 9:53 p.m. on Friday for a past felony resisting arrest warrant, said the Liberty Police Department over social media.

But upon their arrival, Mack escaped.

He was seen running east on Mill Street toward Lightburne Street, police said in a tweet.

Liberty officers patrolled the streets looking for Mack through the night following a ground and air search, the department said in a 1:25 a.m tweet.

By 7:30 a.m., an off-duty officer witnessed Mack walking on Kansas Street near Ridge Street. A chase ensued, the department said.

Shortly after, Mack was placed back into custody.
