One injured in Kansas City hit-and-run involving vehicle that fled pursuit, police say
One person was seriously hurt on Friday evening after a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek neighborhood involving a vehicle that fled an earlier traffic stop, according to police.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Benton boulevards. Police said the crash was caused by the driver of a Dodge Charger that was traveling at high speed and failed to stop at a red light.
The Dodge struck an SUV that was traveling east on Martin Luther King Boulevard at the time. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to overturn and strike a traffic control signal, police said.
The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as those in the Dodge fled the scene on foot, police said. The driver of the SUV was in stable condition at the hospital as of Friday night, police said.
Earlier in the day, Kansas City police said they had attempted to stop the same Dodge Charger near the intersection of 43rd Street and Cleveland Avenue.
Police said that pursuit was terminated and there were no police vehicles behind the Dodge when the driver ran the red light at the crash scene. That driver and other occupants of the vehicle were still being sought by police Friday night.
