Former Jackson County jail officer indicted for inmate assault

A former Jackson County correctional officer has been indicted for allegedly physically assaulting a jail detainee.

Young Isinwa was arrested Thursday and made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Kansas City on the charge of violating an inmate’s rights by using unreasonable force during the 2011 incident.

Isinwa, 44, of Kansas City, worked at the Jackson County Detention Center when he allegedly kicked the inmate in the head while the man was restrained, according to the indictment returned Wednesday under seal.

It was unsealed Thursday after Isinwa was arrested.
