Man killed by KC police pointed gun at officers

A man shot and killed by Kansas City police on Saturday night in the Northland pointed a gun at officers, according to police officials.

About 9 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 500 block of N.E. 44th Street. Shots were also reported in the 500 and 600 blocks of N.E. Greenfield and police received information that a suspect shot at a vehicle as the resident was pulling out of their driveway.

About the same time police received a report of a suicidal person in the 500 block of N.E. Greenfield. As three officers approached the location, a man pointed a gun at them. The officers fired and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Chief Darryl Forté said Saturday that no officer was injured. The victim has not been identified.
