Pedestrian wrapped in blanket critically injured in hit-and-run in Kansas City

A Ford pickup truck failed to stop after running over a pedestrian who had fallen or laid down in the middle of a Kansas City street near Blue Valley Park early Monday, a police spokeswoman said.

The hit-and-run crash occurred about 6:45 a.m. Monday as the pedestrian, who was wrapped in a blanket, was walking in the westbound lanes of East 23rd Street and fell or laid down in the middle of the road near Topping Avenue, said Officer Donna Drake.

A gray Ford F150 headed westbound ran over the pedestrian and failed to stop, Drake said. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was in critical, but stable condition.

The investigation into the crash is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
