One person suffered minor injuries after a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City as officers were pursuing a possibly armed suspect in a carjacking, according to police.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Kansas City police officers were chasing a Dodge Challenger sought in connection with the crime when the collision occurred on U.S. 71 Highway near Bannister Road, according to a crash report. As the driver was evading police, the Dodge struck a black GMC Yukon that was traveling in the middle southbound lane, police said.

The impact caused the GMC to strike a Chevrolet Equinox, traveling in the left lane. The Chevy then struck a concrete barrier and rolled over.

The only person injured was the driver of the Chevy, police said. That person declined medical attention at the crash scene.

The driver of the Dodge continued south after the crash, police said, but was later taken into police custody.

The crash caused a traffic backup along the highway as the crash scene was being investigated Tuesday afternoon. All lanes of traffic were shut down for roughly 90 minutes before reopening, according to police.
