One person was struck and killed by a dump truck Tuesday in the Zona Rosa shopping center in Kansas City’s Northland, according to police.

The crash occurred shortly after 12 p.m. near the intersection of N.W. 87th Street and N.W. Prairie View Road, according to a police report. Police said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road as the truck was making a left turn.

The truck driver did not see the pedestrian but stopped after feeling a bump, police said. After exiting the vehicle the driver found the person was underneath the truck, police said

The driver was uninjured. Police did not immediately release the identity of the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

By Tuesday evening, the Zona Rosa shopping center was business as usual as police had cleared away from the crash scene. The intersection where the crash occurred was near a parking lot that was being repaved.

A representative for Zona Rosa did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for comment late Tuesday afternoon.
