Daughter charged in shooting of her father

A Kansas City woman who reportedly shot her father on Independence Day has been charged with felony assault.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s office said Joy Rascoe, 28, was charged with first degree domestic assault in connection with the shooting of her father.

At about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Kansas City police were called to the 3700 block of Mersington Avenue. Officers found a man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen and chest. The victim told police his daughter had shot him. The daughter retreated into the home but eventually surrendered to officers and was taken to police headquarters.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found a shotgun and shells, including one spent shell.

The victim, whose name was not released, was in critical but stable condition at a hospital Sunday with wounds to both the left and right chest.
