Bullets wounded two people in the Power & Light District early Saturday after a fight broke out among crowds leaving an event at the Sprint Center, Kansas City police said.

The disturbance started shortly after midnight, as attendees were leaving a College Basketball Experience event. Fights broke out in the crowd about 12:15 a.m., police said.

Officers working to restore order heard a gunshot near 13th Street and Grand Avenue. They found a critically wounded teen on the sidewalk, and they located another teenage shooting victim west of the intersection.

The second victim, who was hit in the groin, became combative and refused to identify himself or say what had happened, police said. He had to be restrained in order to be taken to a hospital, police said.

Extra officers had been assigned to the area because of past problems with similar events, police said.
