Update: Police later identified the man as 53-year-old Antonio Griffin.

A pedestrian died a few weeks after he was run over in a Kansas City parking lot by a driver who later fled, according to police.

The driver ran the man over around 2 a.m. on July 30 after he laid or sat down in a parking lot across from Peppermill Lounge South at 11612 Hickman Mills Drive, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver of the black Chevy stayed at the scene, but later left without giving her information to officers, Drake said.

Officials took the man, who had life-threatening injuries, to a hospital. He later died.
