Driver impairment investigated in critical injury crash in Kansas City’s Northland
A driver was critically injured after failing to stop at a red light and colliding with another vehicle Sunday evening in Kansas City’s Northland, a police spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. when a gray Toyota Rav4 headed east on Northeast 80th Street and allegedly failed to stop at a red stoplight at Missouri 1 highway in Kansas City, North, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
The SUV collided with a gray Ford Fusion that was headed north on Missouri 1.
The driver of the SUV, who was not wearing a seat belt, was critically injured in the collision and was taken to a hospital, Foreman said.
Meanwhile the driver of the Ford, as well as the driver’s wife and infant, sustained minor injuries. All were wearing seat belts and the infant was secured in a car seat.
Police are investigating whether impairment was a factor in the crash, Foreman said.
