Guilty plea in Overland Park bank robbery

A 54-year-old Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to robbing an Overland Park bank last year.

Clifton B. Cloyd admitted to brandishing a firearm during the hold-up of the Bank of America at 9500 Mission Road on Oct. 29.

Several employees and a customer were assaulted during the robbery. Federal prosecutors said that Cloyd admitted to dragging one woman by her hair and pistol-whipping her. Another woman was hit so hard in the head her glasses were knocked off, and a man suffered a laceration to his head from being struck.

Sentencing for Cloyd is scheduled for Sept. 14 in U.S. District Court.

The case against his co-defendant, Steven A. Watts, is pending.
