Family to bury Kansas City man killed in shooting who loved Chiefs, the outdoors
Family of 25-year-old Austin Knowles-DeClements is raising money to help bury the man after he was fatally shot last week.
Knowles-DeClements was killed Wednesday evening, after someone shot into the vehicle he was in, a witness told police at the time. He was declared dead at the scene.
“He was happy with life, he was happy with the person he was becoming, and he was so beyond loved,” his sister-in-law wrote as part of a GoFundMe launched to help with funeral expenses.
As of Monday morning, the fundraiser had accrued about $1,600 of the family’s $6,700 goal.
Knowles-DeClements loved the Chiefs, fishing and camping, family wrote.
“He has sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, a mom and a dad that he left behind, and I can guarantee you that every one of those people have a piece missing from their world now that he is gone,” the GoFundMe reads.
At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched about 8:30 p.m. to East 10th and Olive streets on a call seeking medical help, police said at the time. A woman flagged down arriving officers and directed them to a man who had been shot.
Knowles-DeClements was unresponsive when help arrived.
The witness told police she and Knowles-DeClements were fired upon while inside the vehicle. She told them the shooting unfolded at another location, police said. Officers at the time said they had been trying to determine the exact location of the shooting.
Knowles-DeClements was among seven people who were shot and killed across the Kansas City metro within the last week. So far this year, the city has suffered 13 homicides.
