Teen found safe after being abducted in Kansas City car theft Wednesday afternoon
Kansas City police have safely located a 14-year-old briefly abducted Wednesday afternoon after an SUV was stolen with him inside.
The juvenile, Marylan Stewart, was reunited with his father after he was able to leave the vehicle and return to the area from where it was stolen, Sgt. Jake Becchina, police spokesman, said Wednesday afternoon. Authorities were seeking an Amber Alert earlier Wednesday to locate the teenager.
Police continue to search for the vehicle, a white 2019 Dodge Durango. It was driven east from the 1400 block of East 63rd Street after being stolen around 3:40 p.m., police said.
The SUV has a Missouri license plate: RG1H4X. It also has a low rear passenger tire, broken rear tail light and tinted windows, police said.
The suspected car thief is described by police as a Black woman, about 5-foot-6, and roughly 180 pounds. She was wearing a scarf over her hair, a gray jacket, pink pants and pink flip-flops.
