Police identify two killed in Kansas City, Kansas on Friday as teenagers
Kansas City, Kansas police on Monday identified the people killed Friday night as two teenagers from the city.
Hugo Hernandez-Vasquez, 16, and Ximena Acevas-Vargas, 18, died following a shooting that took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the Shawnee Heights neighborhood. Arriving officers found multiple people injured at the scene in the 1400 block of Southwest Boulevard.
Hernandez-Vasquez died shortly after arriving at an area hospital. Acevas-Vargas died later of “traumatic injuries” that were not associated with the gunfire, police say.
“The cause of her injuries remains under investigation,” Nancy Chartrand, a department spokeswoman, said in a statement.
The department’s Major Case Unit is handling the investigation. Kansas City, Kansas police are asking anyone with information about the killings to contact the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
