Kansas City man convicted of double murder

A Jackson County jury convicted a Kansas City man Friday in two 2012 killings.

Jurors found Oliver L. Todd, 51, guilty of two counts of second degree murder.

The charges stemmed from an August, 2012 verbal altercation with several others on the front porch of a residence in the 3200 block of College Avenue. According to court records, Todd, after being turned away from the gathering, returned with a gun. Killed were Travis Pernell, 24, and Melvin Taylor, 29.

The jury also found Todd guilty of one count of first degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 24.
