Life in prison ordered for hatchet killing

A 41-year-old Blue Summit man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole for the 2013 hatchet killing of a neighbor.

A Jackson County jury in May convicted Ricky Sines of first-degree murder in the killing of 71-year-old Roger Krout. He also was sentenced to 30 years in prison for an armed criminal action conviction.

The two men were drinking beer and watching a movie before Sines killed Krout with three blows to the head, according to trial testimony.
