Life sentence in Overland Park killing
A 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the killing of an Overland Park man last year.
Christopher Shelton-Jenkins was sentenced in Johnson County District Court, where he pleaded guilty in July to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Brandon L. Holmes.
Holmes, 21, was shot to death at his apartment in the 9100 block of Robinson Street. According to court documents, Holmes was a roommate of Shelton-Jenkins’ wife.
When he was interviewed by police after the killing, Shelton-Jenkins conceded that he wanted to kill Holmes, but that somebody else had done it first. He later changed his story and said that he had set up the murder, but somebody else had carried it out, according to the documents.
A gun used in the killing was later found on property near the home of a Shelton-Jenkins’ family member.
Under Kansas law, he will have to serve at least 25 years before he is eligible for parole.
