Charge filed in Prairie Village bank robbery
Prosecutors filed a federal bank robbery charge Friday in connection with the December holdup of a Prairie Village bank.
Darrell Hunter, 50, of Kansas City was charged in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., with the Dec. 26 armed robbery of the UMB branch at 6900 Mission Road.
Witnesses who identified Hunter from security camera images also identified him as the robber of a Kansas City bank three days after the Prairie Village robbery, according to court documents.
No charges have been filed in that Dec. 29 robbery of the Bank Midwest at 63rd Street and Brookside Boulevard.
FBI agents investigating the Prairie Village robbery got a tip about Hunter’s identity from an employee of an Independence Target store after several thefts at the store. The thief in that case was wearing the same clothing and hat as the bank robber, according to court documents.
Several people who knew Hunter identified him from surveillance photos, and his cellphone records show he was near the UMB about the time of the robbery, according to the documents.
