Pedestrian seriously injured in hit-and-run crash Saturday in south Kansas City

A pedestrian was hospitalized Saturday after the driver of a passing vehicle struck him, then fled the crime scene.

Officers were called just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday to the area of East 91st Street and James A Reed Road on a hit-and-run crash, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email Saturday evening.

An unknown person was driving a black vehicle south on James A Reed Road at high speed when the driver struck a pedestrian walking south along the west edge of the pavement, Becchina said.

The impact of the collision threw the pedestrian into the air as the driver who hit him fled the scene, continuing south on James A Reed Road.

Becchina said the pedestrian has been hospitalized with serious injuries.
