Pedestrian hit by vehicle in Kansas City hospitalized with life-threatening injuries

A pedestrian was critically injured when they were struck by a vehicle Thursday in Kansas City, police said.

Officers were called about 4:40 p.m. Thursday to Independence and Indiana avenues on a collision, officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police department, said in an email Thursday.

A driver was headed west on Independence Avenue in a silver Hyundai when they ran into a person crossing the road near Indiana Avenue, El-Ashkar said.

The driver hit the pedestrian with the left front side of the vehicle, she said. The pedestrian, who was thrown into the windshield on impact, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“The driver did not see the pedestrian until it was too late,” El-Ashkar said.
