3 people taken into custody after police pursuit, crash on I-435 in south Kansas City
Three people were taken into custody Thursday afternoon after a pursuit and crash in south Kansas City, according to police.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 at 87th Street.
In a statement, Kansas City police said officers were trying to contact the occupants of a Dodge Charger when the driver fled, allegedly attempting to strike an officer.
Police pursued the car on Bannister Road and then entered the interstate.
Past 87th Street, the driver of the Dodge lost control on the left shoulder, crossed all four lanes of traffic and struck a guard rail.
Police said the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot after the crash. Officers in the area took all three into custody.
At least one person reported being injured after the wreck.
The northbound lanes of I-435 were temporarily closed as police investigated the incident. The highway was reopened after about an hour.
