Convenience store employee shot during attempted robbery in Kansas City, Kansas

An employee was shot during an attempted robbery early Tuesday at a convenience store in Kansas City, Kansas, police say.

According to a news release, Kansas City, Kansas, police were called just before 4 a.m. to the 2200 block of Metropolitan Avenue in reference to shots being fired.

Arriving police officers found a store employee who had a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition, police said Tuesday afternoon.

No arrests have been announced.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department said the investigation was ongoing.
