Two people injured in shooting Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City

Kansas City police were investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon that left two people injured in the area of 16th Street and Ewing Avenue.

According to Capt. David Jackson, a Kansas City police spokesman, officers were initially called in reference to gunshots heard in the area.

On their way to the scene, police received another call regarding a crash near 16th and Ewing.

Jackson said officers quickly determined that the two calls were related and responded to the crash scene first, where they found two people who had been shot.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals.

The driver was said to be in stable condition Wednesday night, and the passenger was listed in critical condition.
