Three charged with assaulting, robbing woman in a cemetery
Three people were charged in a Thursday robbery and assault of a woman in a Harrisonville cemetery, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.
Prosecutors on Thursday charged 32-year-old Maggie L. Jestice, of Harrisonville, 31-year-old Dustin L. Richardson, of Lancaster, Kansas, and 59-year-old Glen E. Downton, of Harrisonville, with the alleged robbery and assault.
About 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Cass County deputies and the Harrisonville Police Department responded to the Orient Cemetery just outside of city limits on Elm Street, according to the sheriff’s office.
A 35-year-old Blue Springs woman told officers she went to the cemetery with a friend when the friend and two others assaulted her. The woman escaped at some point and hid in a wooded area, officials said.
Jestice, Richardson and Downtown then allegedly took some of her property and left in her truck, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Blue Springs woman had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
About an hour later, the Garden City Fire Department and Cass County deputies responded to a vehicle fire at South Kauffman Road and East 275th Street. Deputies found it was the stolen vehicle.
Jestice, Richardson and Downton were arrested at a Harrisonville apartment.
All three were charged with armed criminal action, first degree robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, knowing burning or exploding and tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution.
Jestice was also charged with first degree domestic assault. Richardson and Downton were each charged with first degree assault.
Their bond was set at $50,000 cash only for each. Bond hearings were scheduled for all three for April 6 at 10:30 a.m.
No attorneys were listed for the three in online court records.
They are all being held in the Cass County Jail.
