Woman’s death investigated after shooting reported at Kansas City home Monday

Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive Monday morning at a Kansas City home.

Officers were called about 7 a.m. to a shooting in the 2700 block of Park Avenue and found the woman unresponsive, according to the Kansas City Police Department. The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to initial police reports, a disturbance occurred inside the home between the victim and one or more persons.

Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a police department spokesman, said it was not yet clear what injuries the woman sustained that led to her death. Officers were called to the residence on a shooting call and found the victim.

“She had been injured somehow but we are not 100 percent sure how she was injured, just yet,” Becchina said.

Investigators are working to determine if the victim lived at the residence or was a visitor, which will give them a better idea of what caused the initial disturbance, he said.

Crime scene technicians were gathering evidence and detectives were working with the Jackson County Medical Examiner to confirm exactly what led to her injury and how she died.

The investigation was ongoing Monday morning.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
