Bates County sheriff’s deputy, suspect injured in deputy-involved shooting in Butler

A Bates County sheriff’s deputy and a suspect were taken to a hospital Sunday after a deputy-involved shooting in rural Butler, Missouri, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy was not shot during the incident but suffered serious injuries, according to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.

Both were taken to Bates County Memorial Hospital, about 65 miles south of Kansas City.

Another agency was asked to conduct the investigation, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

No other information was released. It was not immediately clear where the shooting unfolded or what time it occurred.

A person who answered the phone Sunday at the sheriff’s office said a reporter would have to call back Monday for additional details.
