Four people injured after police pursuit ends in two-vehicle crash in Kansas City
Four people were injured after a pursuit ended in a two-vehicle crash late Friday night in Kansas City, police said in a statement.
The incident happened after 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of East 62nd Street and Indiana Avenue.
A preliminary investigation by the Kansas City Police Department determined that an officer tried to stop a Chevrolet Malibu just west of the intersection in connection to a burglary investigation.
The officer activated his emergency lights, but the driver didn’t stop, police stated. The officer then activated his siren.
The car “sped down the street eastbound” and then ran a stop sign, striking a southbound Dodge Durango.
At least one person in the Malibu fled on foot and was not located by officers.
Two people in the Malibu were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
A female passenger in the Durango was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City police spokesman, said the seriously injured person was said to be in stable condition by Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the Durango was reported to have minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
