1 dead, 4 injured in Westport shooting early Saturday. Shooter fired from an SUV

Five victims were shot after a gunman fired from a white SUV traveling down Mill Street in Westport at around 1:20 Saturday morning.

One man is dead, two men are in critical condition, and a man and a woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information is that an off-duty Kansas City police officer discharged his weapon, and Westport security officers were involved. All officers are unharmed.

Police located an SUV matching the description with bullet holes at 39th and Main streets, and took one person into custody.

Detectives will be processing the scene and looking for available video. Mill Street was partially closed off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Mayor Quinton Lucus posted on Twitter Saturday morning about the recent shootings in KC, including the incident in Westport. He wrote:

“Saddened to hear of two lives lost recently to violence, including one killed steps outside a police station, and five shot early this AM in Westport. My heart goes out to all, particularly the children who were with the victim outside the police station.”
