2 men arrested after Cass County pursuit, speeds reached ‘over 100 mph,’ sheriff says
Two Harrisonville men were arrested and charged in Cass County this week following a high-speed pursuit of a reported stolen car that had been used allegedly in an armed robbery, the sheriff’s office said.
The chase, which involved deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office said in a news release that deputies located the stolen car, a 2011 Ford Fusion, in Harrisonville. They tried to initiate a traffic stop near Anaconda Road and Clearwater Drive, but the driver allegedly sped off.
According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit continued for nearly half an hour on gravel roads and highways near Freeman and Drexel with “speeds over 100 mph” at times. Deputies deployed tire deflation devices and the car came to a stop at East 331st Street and Lacy Road, east of Drexel.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The driver, identified as Christopher L. Vanalst, 28, is charged with resisting arrest, tampering with a vehicle and driving while revoked, the news release stated. Bond for Vanalst was set at $7,500 cash.
The sheriff’s office said the passenger, Javier M. Morales, 28, is charged with misdemeanor counts of tampering with a vehicle and drug possession. A signature bond was issued.
