At Kansas City Super Bowl parade, police detained man on horse, man who fell from tree
Five people were detained by police at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade Wednesday in downtown Kansas City, officials said.
Those included two people involved in a car chase with police down the length of the parade route, a man on a horse who was removed from the crowd, a man who fell out of a tree, and one person cited for disorderly conduct, according to police.
Officials provided those details Thursday in a news conference at Kansas City Police Department headquarters downtown.
The parade on Wednesday proceeded along a nearly two-mile route from near Sixth Street and Grand Boulevard south along Grand toward Union Station, where a victory rally was held with Chiefs players. Thousands of fans filled downtown streets to celebrate.
The man on the horse was removed from the rally and allowed to leave, officials said. The man who fell from the tree was removed. Neither were cited or arrested.
The most serious incident police officials discussed was the car chase, which frightened fans along the parade route but resulted in no reported injuries, police said.
Hours before the parade started, police were involved in a car chase as a driver forced his way through a barrier at the north end of the route shortly after 8 a.m. and drove the length of Grand — pursued by law enforcement — to the south end, where he was arrested.
The man, Addae J. Doyle, 41, of Kansas City, Kansas, later told police he was high and didn’t remember the incident, according to charges filed against him by Jackson County prosecutors.
A woman in the car was questioned and released, officials said.
At least 30 cameras were positioned along the parade route, officials said. Police said they planned to release video of the chase later Thursday.
