Police investigate burned body found Sunday morning in Kansas City

Kansas City police launched a death investigation Sunday morning after a body was found burned in an apparent homeless camp in the northeastern part of the city.

The body was found about 7:30 a.m. near East Ninth Street and Hardesty Avenue, according to the Kansas City Police Department. Police said the body appeared to have been burned, but did not describe its condition further.

Detectives were canvassing the area for anyone with information. Crime scene investigators were expected to continue processing the scene for several hours.

Anyone with information was asked to call the police department’s homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

Information leading to an arrest could result in a $25,000 cash reward, police said.
