Man charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery in Johnson County

An Overland Park man has been charged with rape and aggravated sexual battery in connection to an alleged assault that happened last year in Johnson County, according to court records.

The man, identified in charging documents as Jonam Okasa Edward, was booked into the county jail Wednesday morning after the district attorney’s office filed the charges on Tuesday.

According to the charging documents, the incident occurred Sept. 13, 2019, and involved a person older than 16. The charges allege that Edward, 34, had sexual contact with a person “who did not consent” and “was overcome by force or fear.”

An attorney listed for Edward has not responded to a request for comment.

Edward remained in the county jail Wednesday with bond set at $150,000.

A court hearing is scheduled Feb. 6.
