Multiple people in custody after police chase ends in south Kansas City

A few people were taken into custody following a pursuit in south Kansas City Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The incident started just after 3:30 p.m. According to Kansas City police, officers were called to investigate the sound of shots in the area of 58th Street and Prospect Avenue. Police then received a report of the occupants of two vehicles shooting at each other.

Police said they began pursuing both vehicles.

By 4:30 p.m., police said it appeared that “multiple” occupants from both vehicles were in custody.

Police said one car, a Volkswagen Jetta, crashed in the area of 87th and Oakland.

Another vehicle, a silver car, led police on a chase through parts of south Kansas City and Grandview. The pursuit lasted for about half an hour with speeds reported up to 80 mph at times.

The car eventually stopped on northbound Interstate 435, south of Oldham Road in Kansas City. The right lane of the interstate was temporarily closed as police investigated, Kansas City Scout video showed.

No injuries have been reported.
