A KCK man is charged with murdering a mother and her two children

A 31-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man has been charged with the murder of a mother and her two children and burning the KCK house where their bodies were found earlier this week.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office has charged Ismael Caballero with three counts of first degree murder and two counts of arson in the death of Yazmin Rodriguez-Santilla, her daughter Amerikha Rodriguez, 14, and her son Jean Carlo Rodriguez, 10.

Published news reports said that firefighters, who were out on another call, smelled smoke and responded to a house fire about 4:35 a.m. Monday near North Mill Street and Ridge Avenue, which is just north of Central Avenue. Firefighters found the mother and her children.

Kansas City, Kansas police took Caballero into custody in connection with the triple homicide later Monday morning.

Police believe that Cabellero knew the victims, said Jonathan Carter, a spokesman for the DA’s office. Officials were not releasing further details about what might have led to the killings. A GoFundMe page has been setup to help pay funeral expenses.
