Defendant faces new charge in Johnson County case of photographs taken in bathroom
A new charge involving more victims has been filed against a Lenexa man accused in April of photographing unsuspecting women inside a bathroom at Johnson County Community College.
Campus police arrested Saysavat Bounyadeth on April 27 after a woman noticed him allegedly using his cellphone to take her picture inside a restroom on the Overland Park campus.
As the woman chased him, construction workers who heard her screams caught and held him until campus police arrived.
Prosecutors charged him in Johnson County District Court with two felony counts of invasion of privacy for that incident and a similar incident that occurred a week earlier.
On Friday, prosecutors added a third count after allegedly finding pictures of other women on his cellphone. Investigators are trying to identify those women and where the pictures were taken.
Bounyadeth, 39, appeared in court Friday morning for a scheduled preliminary hearing. He waived the hearing and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He had been released from prison about a month before his April arrest, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.
He had been imprisoned late last year after his probation was revoked for failing to complete sex offender treatment in a “sexually motivated” burglary case.
In that December 2013 incident, Bounyadeth broke into an Olathe woman’s apartment and stole underwear and lingerie. He pleaded guilty and was required to register as a sex offender.
He has remained in the Johnson County jail since his April arrest. His next court date is July 9.
