The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. near 84th Street and The Paseo, when a man walked up to a vehicle with a gun and fired multiple shots, killing 25-year-old Brent B. Barnes II, according to charges filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. Others were wounded, according to prosecutors.

Video surveillance showed a man in a red baseball cap, a white T-shirt and black sweatpants carried a gun with an extended magazine. The shooter fired at the car as it turned northbound onto The Paseo at 84th Street.

The next day, detectives were alerted to clothing found in the area that appeared to be the same as that worn by the suspect.

DNA evidence from the clothes was matched to Bean, according to prosecutors.
