JoCo warns of new phone scam
A new telephone scam reported in Johnson County involves trying to convince people they have a federal arrest warrant and need to pay a fine immediately.
The person calling claims to be from a “Federal Warrants Division” at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. Using the name of a real district court judge, the caller tells the victim they need to pay their fine immediately with a Green Dot prepaid credit card.
The Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday the federal warrant division does not exist.
Anyone who receives such a call should contact the Sheriff’s Department or police.
