Kansas City man faces charges in fatal crash
Jackson County prosecutors have accused a 28-year-old man of causing a fatal wreck Thursday at 35th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue.
They charged Cedric L. Boyles of Kansas City with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, assault and driving with a revoked driver’s license.
Jeffrey Shadlow, 47, of Kansas City was killed when a speeding northbound car ran a stop sign and broadsided his westbound Ford Fusion in the intersection.
According to court records, witnesses saw Boyles speed through the stop sign at 36th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue a block before the wreck.
Two children in the back seat of Boyles’ car were treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Boyles was driving with a revoked license, prosecutors said. He has two convictions for driving without a license and six convictions for driving while his license was suspended, revoked or denied.
According to court records, a police officer detected a faint odor of alcohol on Boyles’ breath at the hospital. Boyles exhibited slurred speech, mood swings, and watery and bloodshot eyes. After Boyles refused to provide a blood sample, police obtained a search warrant for one.
Blood test results were not listed in court records.
